Cell Technology

As a case for diversification, the VSF business, which has minimal re-investment needs, has generated strong cash flows which have resulted in funding of the cement investments. The chemical business’ performance was impacted due to water shortage. Production of caustic soda, and consequently sales volumes, declined as a result. Realisations were also affected due to lower caustic and allied product prices globally. As a result, net turnover dipped by 28% to touch Rs.715 million and PBIDT fell by 52% to Rs.179 million. As part of its future strategy, the company is in the process of converting its caustic soda plant based on mercury cell technology into the new energy-efficient membrane cell technology at a cost of Rs.1.48 billion.

THE PEOPLE’S CINEMA...

All-Encompassing

Moreover, the three banks have wide reach in different parts of the country and all the three combined would mean a reach that’s going to be all-encompassing. While, at one end Corporation Bank & Indian Bank are dominant in the southern parts of India, OBC after acquiring Global Trust Bank has a much wider reach in the northern parts of Indian peninsula. This alliance extends to building e-payment system, Bancassurance, business syndication and collaboration in terms of procurement of assets (IT and others). Even investors are rating the move positively as the shares of Corporation Bank and OBC, the listed ones, have shot up by 20% and 23% (Sept 11 to Sept 21) respectively in the bourses.
