FDI in the real estate

In fact, they were the first firm to be allowed to bring in FDI in the real estate – since 2000, the Group has brought in as much as $500 million of FDI equity. But, is the ‘scalability’ model actually sustainable in a country like India with so many millions below the poverty line? “India is a rapidly growing economy and provides a unique opportunity to create world-class financial services. The confidence of Mr. Mittal and Farallon Capital in Indiabulls is a testament to the huge opportunity in front of the company,” Sameer Gehlaut, CEO, Indiabulls Group, didn’t lose a step nonchalantly communicating the same to us, with the necessary sycophantic embellishments.

Customer Relationship managers

If you can make an investor part with anywhere between Rs.25 to Rs.250 to register as an online trader, it simply increases the number of your sales people exponentially, and voila! You have a billion dollar firm! “640 branches; 4,000 relationship managers; 450,000 customers; $2.3 billion market capitalisation,” the official statement is loudly pasted on our faces as a response to our blatantly sarcastic queries! But really, from a mere start as a private Internet stock broking firm, Indiabulls has grown to now become not only a diversified publicly held financial service provider (from securities, to consumer finance and mortgages), but also one of India’s leading real-estate behemoths!

Internal Security Becomes much more

And while an inclusive growth strategy for the subcontinent is of prime essence, in the short run, India is left with not much option but to increase its vigil, the reminiscences of 1948, 1965,1971 and 1999 still fresh in mind. It is more of a certainty that Pakistan’s misanthropic misadventure would increasingly spread its fangs much beyond the paradigm of Kashmir to all over India. And it is a bigger certainty that in the new game, Bangladesh would be the new pawn, making sure that for India, internal security becomes much more of a concern than external threats.

Being treated at source

Be it any kind of waste, it is being treated at source so that it’s easier to use further or to dispose it off . Blowing natural air that passes through air filters is used for the building, again saving on electricity by not using air-conditioners. From rainwater harvesting to treatment of water that can be further used; from using regional or recycled material to providing insulation in roof and walls, the focus was on being resource efficient on every stage. Though the cost of building goes up (but as a percentage of actual cost of the normal building it hardly touches double digits) the savings are humongous and to prove that Wipro have established the fact. According to an audit conducted by Tata Energy Resources Institute of Wipro’s building, there was a 46% saving in the electricity bill. Besides, Wipro expects to recover the extra cost incurred in 3-4 years.

De-lighting naturally

Waste disposal assumes an increasingly important aspect in the battle to save the environment...
Earth Day This year was special . 1,000,000 Compact Fluorescent Light bulbs (CFL) were given away in the USA in a special Earth day promotion, in an effort to cut down on energy consumption and securing a saving of nearly 12 million dollars per year in electricity bills. In India too, West Delhi is reported to have at least 3,00 000 users of this energy saving long life lamp. There is a nationwide campaign promoting and encouraging the cost-effective and eco-friendly solution. Tragically, once again, we are leaping off and reaching for a solution offered by technology but without understanding its full implication and potential repercussions.
